What materials we use?

In our commitment to be eco-friendly and sustainable, we have chosen to use a non-toxic luxury coconut-soy wax. Using this all-natural wax allows us to achieve a clean burn and we use phthalate-free, premium fragrance oils infused with essential oils to achieve our amazing fragrance blends.

We use FSC certified, sustainably sourced wooden wicks that have a 20+ hour burn time.

Recycle, please!

We encourage all customers to recycle our premium 3.25 oz glass jars and add a new accessory to your home bar or organize items around the house.

How we work?

Each Tribe and Oak candle is hand-crafted and hand-poured in small batches in Brooklyn, NY.

All of our products are vegan, eco-friendly, cruelty- free, not tested on animals, and hand-crafted.

Candle Care:

  • Always trim wicks to 1/4 inch before lighting. The first time you light your candle, let it burn for 3-4 hours to allow the melted wax to reach the edge of the container to prevent your candle from tunneling.

Candle Safety:

  • Follow the 2 foot rule - don't place a burning candle near anything that is flammable.
  • Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans and any air currents. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep or if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.
  • A candle should not be burned for more than four hours at a time. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/4 inch of wax remains in the container.

PRODUCTS

Q: What does Tribe & Oak mean?

A: Our name was derived to represent our values. Tribe represents our commitment and participation to our community. Oak represents strength, being rooted, and our strong connection to nature.

Q: What type of products do you use?

A: All of our products are vegan, eco-friendly, cruelty-free, not tested on animals, and hand-crafted. We use organic materials wherever possible (Hand Sanitizers,Hand Soap), we use oils that are phthalate-free, and sourced recyclable materials for packaging. We acknowledge that we can always do more and have a goal of becoming carbon neutral in the near future.

Q: Why do you use wooden wicks for your candles?

A: We use wooden wicks from FSC certified wood, which means that it comes from a responsibly managed forest that provides environmental, social, and economic benefits. Besides the fact that wooden wicks are a sustainable material, they will consume your candle at a slower rate and burn for a longer period of time.  The added bonus is the crackling sound as the wick burns, it makes you feel like you are by a campfire.

Q: I have burned my candle and it's a bit bumpy on the top. Why?

A: When you burn the candle, you may see some bumps or an uneven surface, this is perfectly normal. This is a typical occurrence with soy wax and we use soy wax in our blend. There is absolutely nothing wrong, but only a reminder that this candle is derived from natural materials. You are safe to keep burning your candle and enjoy the beautiful fragrance.

Q: Why do you use coconut soy wax?

A: In our research, we wanted to be mindful of our environmental impact, as well as using materials that are safe for pets and humans. We discovered that paraffin wax was derived from petroleum, oil, and slate and wasn't sustainable. Although beeswax is a natural wax, it isn't vegan, so we decided that wasn't the best material for us. We decided on a Coconut- Soy wax blend that we make ourselves. This was important to us so that we could control the blend percentage and get the best quality product using sustainable materials. It produces a clean burn, so you don't have to worry about soot ruining your furniture. It has a superior scent throw, which means you can produce long-lasting and strongly scented candles that are sustainable and healthy for our families.

Q: Why do you offer two candle sizes?

A: We offer two candle sizes for versatility. Our 11oz candles are a long-lasting option for homes and apartments, which will bring you joy each time you light them up! Our votive candles are an excellent option as a travel candle that can spruce up any environment, such as an office or hotel room.

Q: How do I recycle my glass candle jars?

A:Wash in warm water with grease fighting dish soap very well. Make sure to remove all wax and wax residue from the inside and outside of the glass. After the glass is clear, allow to dry and recycle into another use.

Q: What is the lifespan of your products?

A: Because our products are all natural, we encourage customers to use them within a 6-month time period. All of our hand-crafted products are made without added chemicals.

Q: What is a fragrance throw?

A: The fragrance throw is the strength of scent that you smell when the candle is unlit and lit. We use our own special Coconut Soy wax blend and it has a superior scent throw. We are sure to mix the right percentage of oils in the wax and cure our candles for a minimum of 2 weeks for all of the ingredients to bond and create a wonderful fragrance for our customers.

Q: Do you sell in stores?

A: All sales are online for now, however, we have local pop-up shop appearances planned in the near future so stop by if you are in the NYC area. Follow our social media platforms for more details. We have plans to form relationships with stockists so stay tuned for any updates.

Q: I am interested in wholesaling how may I contact you?

A: The first step is to visit our contact us page and fill out our contact form.

Q: The weather is really hot, will my package be ok?

A: When we package all orders, we tightly pack to prevent breakage and we use added reflective bubble wrap in the warmer months or when sending items to warmer regions. For all of our products, we want to be sure that the customer receives our top-quality items in perfect condition. Unfortunately, we can't control the weather, so please note that our Coconut Soy wax used in our candles has a lower melting point than some other waxes. Be warned that this is an uncontrollable risk when purchasing ANY soy and/or coconut blend candles in higher temperatures. It would be best for the receiver to try and be home on warm days to reduce the risk of the package sitting in the heat for a long period of time. For all other products, please just give it a light shake and store at room temperature upon receipt.

If you have chosen Route protection at checkout you can easily file a claim for any lost, stolen, or damaged packages. They will handle the situation on your behalf.
